What are the ROE (rules of engagement) for your comics? These comics are for everyone’s enjoyment. I encourage you to share them with your friends, copy them to your computer so you can look at them freely, create icons from the comics as long as you credit the site, or print them out. What about the comics that are similar to another comic strip? Every cartoonist finds inspiration in their own life. I do read a number of online comics, but I do not copy other artist’s work. With all the comics that are out there I would not be surprised if one of my comic strips was similar to another artist’s work/jokes. Sometimes great minds think alike, as they say. One of your comics borrows from a movie, how is that not stealing? Some of my comic strips have references to movies, yes. You can reference my 20 April 2007 strip for an example. Do not think I claim the jokes on these strips completely as my own; I would not be so careless. These strips are meant as tributes to pop-culture both today and from my childhood. Paying homage to something is not illegal. The comic itself, however, is still my own creation and should be treated like all the others (see ROE for my comics above). Please don’t think because I referenced something for a joke that it is the same by stealing/altering my comic strips. When do you update your site? Not everyone can be a cartoonist for a living (my art has a long way to go before I will consider it professional). I do have a day job, sometimes with long hours, and let’s face it; I don’t always have the time or motivation to do the comic strips. I try to complete them twice a week, but sometimes I get busy, or tired, or both. If I fall behind, keep looking and I will catch up when I find time. If a week or more goes by, you probably aren't reading my odd thoughts. Why Crew Dogs? Crew Dogs is a term used for a group of people who work together to accomplish the mission. It is used frequently in the military, and was a fitting name for the comic. What do you use to draw your comics? I use adobe photoshop to draw the comics. I used to draw them on paper first, scan them, and then edit them until they were ready to post. Now I do all the planning on scrap paper, but instead of scanning a rough sketch I draw one using photoshop. I use adobe dreamweaver to manage the website and post updates. |
